As a member of KPMG’s mergers and acquisitions tax team, Iain was involved in more than 200 international and domestic transactions involving public and private companies and private equity houses. He was also extensively involved in cross border investments by UK companies in Europe, North America and emerging markets and was the Tax Director responsible for cross border activity between the UK and India, in which capacity he visited India on numerous occasions to advise both Indian and UK companies.
Whilst Iain’s focus at KPMG was on privately owned companies and their shareholders and managers, he was also involved in a number of high profile transactions including Ford Motor Company’s sales of Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin and the acquisition by Icelandic investor, Baugur, of numerous UK retailers.
As a Tax Director at RSM Tenon, Iain provided tax advice to a wide range of privately owned companies from entrepreneurial start ups to UK and foreign multinational companies.
As a result of his work with KPMG and RSM Tenon, Iain is very experienced in advising companies, their managers and their shareholders on all aspects of their tax affairs. However, his philosophy as an adviser is that tax is only relevant within a commercial context- tax advice should support and enable a company or individual to achieve their commercial objectives but should not determine them. Furthermore, tax advice should be given in a way that is unambiguous, with clear recommendations which allow the client to make decisions. This philosophy is summed up in the single word, clarity, or, in Latin, Claritas.
Outside of work, Iain’s two young children take up the majority of his free time but he manages to pursue a number of interests including membership of the finance committee of a local charity, travelling and spending time with friends. Having grown up in Derby, he is a keen supporter of Derby County FC but is having to resist his 8 year old son’s attempts to convert him to Aston Villa!

David is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales with more than 15 years’ experience in the tax and accountancy profession
David joined Claritas in 2014 from RSM Tenon in Birmingham. Prior to working for RSM Tenon, David was a Tax Adviser with PwC and Hurst & Co in Manchester
David has specialised in tax throughout his career. As well as advising on all aspects of corporate and business taxes, David has extensive experience of advising on Research and Development tax relief and the exploitation of intellectual property by companies. Over the last ten years, David has recovered more than £7 million in R&D tax relief for his clients and has successfully supported many clients in their interactions with HMRC.
David has worked with a diverse range of clients during his career including blue-chip multinationals and listed companies, such as Samsung, Guardian Media Group and Novartis. However, his primary focus has always been on entrepreneurial and innovative privately owned businesses.

Fiona is a Chartered Tax Adviser and Chartered Accountant with a broad range of technical and business development experience gained within large international firms
Prior to joining Claritas Fiona was head of UK tax at Rödl & Partner, a German owned international accountancy, tax and legal practice. Fiona set up the UK tax function for Rödl & Partner in 2009. At Rödl & Partner, Fiona was responsible for all tax compliance and advisory issues covering corporation tax, income tax, VAT, expatriate taxation, the construction industry scheme and payroll. Fiona has a broad range of international tax experience
Prior to her role at Rödl & Partner, Fiona spent 10 years at KPMG where she focussed on corporate tax and international tax advisory services. Whilst at KPMG Fiona led the KPMG Midlands restructuring tax team, advising on formal insolvency appointments, group streamlining projects, and pre-pack sales of assets and companies. Fiona was also a part of the mergers and acquisitions tax team , where she focused on buy side and sell side tax due diligence, tax structuring and work around tax forecasts. This involved tax advice on the transaction documents including the sale and purchase agreement and the shareholder agreement.
Fiona’s approach to business is talking to clients to understand their trade, its opportunities and threats. She then works with them to develop a plan to achieve their commercial objectives.
Outside of work Fiona is a keen photographer and she often combines this hobby with her love of walking in the Lake District and the Shropshire hills.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, John started his tax career with Ernst & Young and then joined HSBC Bank where he spent 24 years, followed by a short contract at the London branch of ABN AMRO, the Dutch state owned bank.
At HSBC Bank, John had a number of roles. A main specialism was Asset Finance, where he led the team looking after the compliance and tax advice on the leasing/hire purchase book as well as big ticket assets such as trains, ships and oil refineries, where he worked alongside the customer, external lawyers and sales teams. He was also responsible for the tax function for the bank’s private equity investment vehicles and the UK arm of the US Bank. He was involved in the IT global cost sharing company and the extensive transfer pricing issues. More latterly at HSBC, John was a senior member of the tax reporting team co-ordinating the tax results of over seventy worldwide reporting sub units. At ABN AMRO, John worked on compliance issues as well as advising on matters such as Bank Levy and the tax residence of group companies.
John believes that the tax tail should not wag the dog and that enduring solutions to tax issues are founded on sound analysis with full collaboration with customer or client and non-aggressive, yet commercial tax planning.
John and Anne have two young adult children and much to their surprise have found that both have boomeranged back home after university. John therefore gets lots of opportunity to practice one of his favourite hobbies, cooking.

Minesh was formally a Tax Senior Manager with both KPMG and Deloitte in Birmingham. Prior to that, he worked for the Large Business Office at HMRC as a PAYE/NIC Auditor. Minesh has over 22 years’ experience of dealing with PAYE and NIC compliance and implementing cost saving strategies relating to employment taxes.
Minesh set up PAYE Matters Ltd, an Employment Tax consultancy Company in 2014, where he provides advice to employers on employment tax related issues, on areas such as HMRC reviews/investigations, PAYE/NIC ‘health checks’, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), salary sacrifice arrangements, employment status, tax efficient termination payments, staff entertaining and general PAYE/NIC compliance matters.
Whilst at KPMG and Deloitte, Minesh was involved with a number of high profile clients including Jaguar Land Rover, IMI plc, Denso Manufacturing, Interserve, PPG, Getinge and Pork Farms. The type of services he provided included negotiations/settlements in relation to HMRC reviews/investigations, undertaking PAYE ‘health checks’, making voluntary disclosures to HMRC, due diligence, implementing and reviewing salary sacrifice arrangements, advising on matters relating to the Construction Industry Scheme, P11D Dispensation applications, agreeing PAYE Settlement Agreements with HMRC and submission of calculations and providing ad hoc advice and training on a range of PAYE/NIC issues.
Outside of work, Minesh is married with three children, who all keep him very busy! Minesh is a big Tottenham fan and he also enjoys cricket having played for local clubs for over 20 years, although nowadays, his cricketing skills are limited to driving his two boys to their numerous cricket games!

Ses is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and Association of Taxation Technicians with more than 12 years' experience in the tax profession.
Ses joined Claritas in 2015 from RSM Tenon. Prior to this, Ses spent 5 years working for PwC and the in-house team of law firm Allen & Overy.
Ses has specialised in tax for all of his career. He has provided advice on all aspects of corporate and business taxes for both listed and multinational groups and owner managed businesses. During his time at PwC, Ses advised on domestic and cross border group reorganisations, M&A, demergers, PFI and loan relationship issues. At RSM Tenon, Ses provided tax advice to a wide range of privately owned companies covering issues such as Entrepreneurs' relief, R&D, MBOs, EMI share options and capital allowances.
During his time in the tax profession, Ses has worked on a number of high profile clients such as Superdry, Alpro, Swiss Re, Cross Rail and Douglas Gill. Since leaving PwC his primary focus has been on entrepreneurial privately owned businesses.
Outside of work, Ses is kept busy with his young family. When he gets 5 minutes, he writes and produces his own electronic synth based music, is learning to play the piano, likes to keep fit and is an avid Liverpool fan.

Sonia is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and The Association of Taxation Technicians with 20 years’ experience in the tax profession.
Prior to joining Claritas in 2016, Sonia worked in the in-house tax team of Schneider Electric. Prior to her industry experience, Sonia was a Tax Manager at BDO LLP in Birmingham and has also been a Tax adviser working for PwC and E&Y.
Sonia has specialised in tax from the start of her career. She has provided tax compliance and advice on various aspects of corporate and business taxes for multinational groups and owner managed businesses. During her time at Schneider Electric, Sonia has gained practical experience regarding large multinational groups, including Permanent Establishments and Transfer Pricing. At BDO, Sonia specialised in R&D tax relief claims within the Birmingham office, whilst also providing tax advice to the wide range of companies on her portfolio covering various issues, including group simplification and capital allowance projects.
Sonia has worked on a variety of clients over the years, including GEA Group, APC Overnight, Palletline plc, Franchise Brands Worldwide (Chips Away). However working in industry has given her a different perspective on what companies do / do not want from an advisor.

Sarah has worked within the accounting sector for over 16 years. During this time, experience has been gained in many aspects of accountancy and taxation.
Sarah joined Claritas in January 2015 as Office Manager, having previously worked in an accountancy practice for the past 16 years.
Sarah will be starting her ATT professional qualification in Tax this year and is looking forward to becoming a member of the Tax Team for Claritas in due course.
Outside of work, Sarah is married with one daughter. Sarah enjoys taking her daughter horse riding and loves to exercise in her spare time.

I joined Claritas in September 2015 as a graduate from Swansea University having studied Business Management and graduating with a First Class Honours. During my studies, I really enjoyed the tax modules and decided this was the area I wanted to specialise in.
I wasn’t looking for a role in one of the ‘big 4’ tax and accountancy firms and this was limiting my options for a role specialising in tax so I was lucky enough to get the job I really wanted with Claritas.
I am now studying for my ACA qualification and look forward to my future here. Outside of work studying for my exams keeps me busy, however I enjoy cooking and swimming when I get chance, having previously competed at a regional level.

Elliott graduated from the University of Bradford’s School of Management in 2014 with a First Class Honours in Business Management. Elliott joined Claritas Tax as a Tax Assistant in September 2016.
Prior to this, Elliott completed the Operations Management Graduate Programme with Ocado and an Industrial Placement year with Samworth Brothers.
Having over 3 years of industry experience in fast-moving consumer goods and production operations, Elliott is now studying towards the joint ACA-CTA qualification, building on the Tax and Accounting modules he studied at University.
Outside of work, Elliott is kept busy with exam revision, however in his spare time enjoys cooking as well as travelling to learn about different cultures and cuisines.
